Are you getting traffic from your online presence?
Strong Internet Presence- how do you get it? The last time I saw my yellow pages phone book, it was on top of the refrigerator. At 5’2”, I don’t see the top of my refrigerator very often, unless I’m standing on a stool or chair. But, we decided we wanted to order a pizza for dinner, and I remembered I had marked our favorite pizza place in the yellow pages.
My then 17 year old daughter (this was 4 years ago) said, “Seriously, mom? You’re going to use the yellow pages? I’ll race you!”
She took out her laptop, looked up the pizza place, placed an order, and even used an internet coupon before I had picked up the phone. Sigh… times have really changed. Putting your company or practice in the yellow pages doesn’t get you business anymore. Even elderly adults are using the phone book- they can’t easily see it, so they call their adult children to make appointments or look up information for them.
Do you have a website?
If you don’t have a website, it’s time to worry. People will look for you online, and if they can’t find you, they will call/visit/purchase from- your competition.
Are you actively involved in social media?
People are talking about you on Facebook, Twitter, Yelp, Merchant Circle and others. There’s nothing you can do about it, unless you get involved and develop a strong presence in social media. People don’t ask their parents or next door neighbors anymore about which doctor, product or service to use- they go online and see what others are saying about your company.
You wonder why you aren’t getting any traffic off the internet?
If you do have a website and you do occasionally participate in social media- but aren’t seeing many results from your efforts- there’s a reason. You are a professional in your area. You spend hours staying up-to-date and current in your profession.
Every day, things on the internet change. There’s no way you could possibly keep up with all the Google algorithm changes and webmaster tips, unless this was your full time job.
